Hi - I have been injecting Etanercept for the past four years - it has given me back my life. During this time I have had no flares at all. The lack of pain enabled me to get on with my life. However last week I had a humdinger of a flare in my wrist and knuckles. I know that it may not work for ever (even though I hope it will) but I am frightened that this is the start of it not working as I can't bear the thought of going back to how I was before I started on it.

Has anyone been on Etanercept and it stopped wotking? - how did it start? etc. Am I worrying too much?

Thanks for your help. Ruth

So sorry, but I have no knowledge of this. It must be a shock when you have been so well, to have such a flare. Phone the helpline, as they will have up to date info for you.

PS Welcome to the forum!

Hi Ruth,

I am on humira and I still get flares, just not as many as before.
Do you have a rheumatology helpline where you can ring and speak to a nurse?

hi Ruth,

sorry to hear you are having a flare after such a long time,

i was thinking the same as Doreen ... can you contact your Rheumy Nurse, also perhaps a Depo injection might help you through this time.

Hi Ruth!

Welcome aboard. I took enbrel for 3 yrs, it did suit me generally very well- in the end it wasnt working so well.

the rules have recently changed and you can swap from one anti-tnf to another. Im sure that is what the rheumatologist will look to do- there is a LONG list of alternatives available nowadaysSmile

PS is there a chance you could have an infection? prob best to get a blood test done at the GPs? You know that immuno surpressants will hide infection and your body might be having an inflammatory reaction to it.
